What are some good colleges/universities in Australia? Is plastic surgery a huge thing in Australia

What are some good colleges/universities in Australia? Is plastic surgery a huge thing in Australia?
I'm planning on moving to Australia once i finish high school and i would like to know some good colleges and universities in Australia to start planning everything. I'm also planning to become a plastic surgeon and i was wondering if plastic surgery is a really big thing over there like it is here in the U.S grew up in the U.S i would like something different in life :P are schools better over there?

Its bigger in the U.S. stay here, why do you want to leave?
2 :
ANU-Canberra University of Melbourne has a good medical school Monash University University of New South Wales La Trobe University These are just a few but there are many and standards are high. Plastic surgery is popular here but not as much as in the USA. I left the USA for Australia in 1974 and have never regretted it
3 :
....
4 :
Melb Uni or Monash are the best medical schools in Victoria (Melb is more presitigeous than Monash). Plastic surgery isn't as big as it is in the US, but it's increasing at an exponential rate. Cosmetic dentistry too

Americans - How come you can't leave school until you are 18

Americans - How come you can't leave school until you are 18?
Just curious. And is their anyway you'se are able to leave school before you turn 18? In Australia you can leave school when your 14 and a half You can get your School Certificate aged 14/15 or you can go on to complete your High School Certificate aged 17/18 But it's optional.
Etiquette - 38 Answers

B/c we value education..
2 :
You can leave school at 14-15 if you have a job. The drop out rate is 10%.
3 :
its actually 16.
4 :
You can really leave at anytime, but here in the states your under the control of your parent or guardian till age 18, then you make decisions for yourself.
5 :
Well, at age 16, you can "leave school" to obtain a GED which is basically a graduate equivalence degree. Only the irresponsible people do that, though. It's a good law because it keeps kids in school and helps to ensure a certain level of general education among citizens. If I had it my way, there would be no GED and you'd have to graduate the normal way.
6 :
High school is required, so you are in school until 18..unless you are really smart and take advanced classes to graduate early, but we don't have the separate degrees, just the one high school degree.
7 :
Well you have to be an adult to make the decision to drop of school in the states. I think its a good thing, because it keeps students around until the point where they might as well stick around and finish up. You can leave school at 16 and receive a GED, which is somewhat like a high school diploma. Usually employers look down on it if you're applying for an upper level job.
8 :
You can drop out of school at 16 if you want. U.S. takes education more seriously I guess.
9 :
its because we are competing with asia and russia they want this to be a country where everyone has a good job with a god pay and no one ends up a hobo
10 :
You can always graduate early. . .
11 :
you can leave school at 16 in the U.S
12 :
Depends on state, and parental consent. You don't have to be 18. I graduated at 17, and I left.
13 :
Americans can leave school before they are 18...by more than one method. They can quit at 16 (in most states) but that its up to a parent mostly. Also, if they take certain tests, they can graduate early. most just choose to follow the norm and graduate when they are scheduled to.
14 :
because they want the next generation to be educated ..omg imagine a world without education
15 :
We can leave school at whatever age we want, we just won't get a diploma.
16 :
how bout not leaving school and not worrying about this question and do your homework
17 :
You can leave at sixteen with your parent/guardian's permission. If you can pass the exams, you can even graduate early.
18 :
i never knew that...:O howah here in canada kids leave school when ever the hell they want...lmao i left at age 16 my cousin left at age 12 wow i never knew 18 wow...:O i guess they want there children to be sucsesful.....:D see i cant even spell right lmfao ...........................eh
19 :
Because we don't want a bunch of idiots running around. As if there aren't enough.
20 :
what why? i thought you could drop out whenever you want. in canada i know kids that dropped out when 13 or 14
21 :
In America you are required to go to school until you graduate the 10th grade, or you turn 16 (by law).
22 :
You can leave school at 16 its just that you cant get a drivers license if you are under 18 and not in full time education.
23 :
I believe you can leave sooner but you are not a legal adult until you are 18 and must do what your parents tell you to do until then.
24 :
Actually that is a misconception. School is begun when you are five years old before the start of the school year (september) so... sometimes you are 17 when you graduate and sometimes you are 18. Any time after 14 you can take a test to get your GED, but it is NOT looked upon as a good option, there is so much education that you miss out on, even if you pass the test and get your diploma. Many children go to private school, have tutors, or are in Gifted/Highly Intelligent Programs and graduate early. Australia - Wow... always wanted to visit there, Enjoy the beautiful land down under!
25 :
It's the law, and one that I agree with. Parents can go to jail if they don't see to it that their children are in school until the age of 18, or until they graduate from high school if they're younger.
26 :
Be thankful there is any educational opportunities afforded u. Those with an education make a tremendously more money in their lifetimes. Stay in school and don't even concern urself about quitting. Education/school is the best thing that will ever happen to u and u will take those memories with u, forever. Loose the idea of quitting school. It's not worth it.
27 :
well, I have to guess that education is a must... But, with the current economy going down schooling is going to be hard to support.
28 :
I graduated at 16. I know people who completed their High School education by 15, by having gone to summer school and earned all their credits needed to graduate. So, it's possible.
29 :
Actually if your parents approve you can withdraw before you can start. Especially if you homeschool. In which case you can stop going as soon as your parents can teach you everything you should have learned in school.....which if your smart should take about a week at the age of 10. Seriously school in the US is largely a bunch of crap. Only thing they do well at all is math...and that's only if you're in the advanced classes. (And before anyone accuses me of being rude to the US.....I'm FROM the US, I went through the school. I homeschool 1st and 2nd grade and didn't learn a single thing more till I got to my junior year of HS. (except how to play a musical instrument in a marching band....but that's not really practical knowledge.....but it was fun.)
30 :
I am not sure exactly, but i believe one reason is because you aren't really considered an adult until your 18. Well young adult, some states age 18 is required to get driver's license, and i believe it is the legal age to vote. Anyways, so i think people believe before you are 18 you aren't really ready to make a big decision like not going to school, and going to school is important. So i think that is why, but that is just what i think. But as people said, you could get out of high school at 16 with parents permission.
31 :
If you complete the requirements for education, you can leave school earlier. I was done at 17 and know someone else who was 15.
32 :
you can drop out of school when your 16 you just just have to have parental consent. and you cant do it by yourself before your 18 because your not legally able to make your own decisions until your 18. You can graduate before 18 if you have finished all required curriculum.
33 :
Because they want to thoroughly brainwash you for as long as your brain is developing. (just kidding) Parents probably made pushed to make it this way and pushed it politically.
34 :
in new jersey you have to go to school until ur 16. because the law says so. 16 is also the age at which u can start working.
35 :
16 in NH
36 :
you can leave school before you're 18. a lot of people graduate high school when they're 17 or occasionally even younger. and you're allowed to legally drop out when you're 16.
37 :
Coz education is everything. Same thing happens in S Africa...we finish school at 18.
38 :
You can drop out at 16 with a guardians permission. And some people graduate at 17 because of a late birthday.

Popular living places in Sydney, Australia?
Im considering moving to Sydney, Australia. The school I will be attending is in Crows Nest in North Sydney. Im looking for a area I could meet people in that is also close to the city but still a reasonable price for rentals as well as a safe neighborhood. Ive never been to Australia so any advice will be thankful!

Basically anywhere north of the harbour is a nice area, but also expensive. The Crows Nest, St Leonards and North Sydney areas are quite nice but high density mixed with office buildings. Lane Cove is more residential/medium density and would be a good choice. Chatswood is another option which is on the train line and has a lot of shopping centres (malls). If you want a really urban type environment stick to the North Sydney area. This whole area from Chatswood south to the harbour is known as the lower north shore area. If you need something a fair bit cheaper you need to head west, to West Ryde or Eastwood for example. The commute will be quite long from this area. http://www.realestate.com.au

In Australia, when does the school year begin? is it like the rest of the world, aug. sept?

The Australian school year, which starts in January and ends in December. This can be made up of two six-month semesters each with two terms but, not very sensibly, each state sets its own holidays and terms, so some states have 3 (or even 4) terms instead. What do you mean the rest of the world? Japan starts in spring, sensibly, as its in the northern hemisphere. No-one knows why on Earth countries like England and the US still stick to starting the year going into the hardest to cope with months of the year when within a few weeks London and anything on that parallel will have less than 7 hours of daylight, instead of the spring when things are getting brighter and children, who are still best adjusted to the natural not the clock time, are better able to cope.
2 :
No its not like the rest of the world, they start scool in January After New Years eve after 1 week. They dont have Summer holidays which i think they should.
3 :
nuh I think they get their summer vacationnow in december...lol
4 :
No......who did tell you the "the rest of the world" starts in aug - sept. I'm in "the rest of the world" too, and my classes just finished. May be you wanted to mean as the "rest of northern hemisphere". We, the persons living in the Southern hemisphere havent the seasons as in the north, so, for us, classes start at the end of summer (march) and go till the end of spring (december) Australia is almost the same.. Our summer vacations are 2 months and a bit more. from december till end of february or starting march. We enjoy our beaches, in that season.
5 :
WOW now Australia is part of Lebanon !!! it is a new province?
6 :
We start on Jan 23 next year so they can have 2 weeks off at Easter and then more holidays in June, September and our summer break is in December which is our summer...funny enough!! My kids have just started their Christmas holidays....JOY!!!
7 :
I don't know where some people are basing their facts but we have our holiday over December/January and start back at the very end of January!

I assume you're not Australian, then you will need a suitable visa. As you will have to support yourself you will also need a work permit. Right now residence visas and work permits are virtually impossible to get. I doubt the Australian Government will let you in as you would be a drain on resources and will give nothing back. Now if you were a brain surgeon it might be different. The fact that's the children have an Italian father is not going to help. Ian M

Well, I do know an Irish lady here in QLD who comes to AUS for 6 months and then goes back to Ireland for 6 months and she has two children that are in primary school and they go to two schools each year but they are the same schools each year. I would love to spend 6 mos here in AUS and 6 months in the USA ( I am an American citizen ) but even if I could work that out financially, I think it would be tough on the my two kids.

How can a 16 yo US citizen live in Australia??? or go to school there or stay for along time?
So im fed up with the US and i havent had a good life here at all and my girlfriend lives in Australia and i already love that place. And I wanna live there or go to school there anything that could get me there for along time. So any details or information or ideas you give would be nice. thank you so much Where would I learn how to be an exchange student??? also the way thongs are going for me and my family i might get emancipated ***things. NoNo24: I have money and more stuff goes on at my house then just not getting along. wanna come over and see???

1 :
If you've been emancipated from your parents, and someone, who is from Australia, will legally take you in, then I'm pretty sure you can live there. If you don't want it to be a permanent thing, you can look into being an exchange student for a year, or look into the People to People program. People to People is where you go to a certain area for about a month, outside or inside the country, to learn more about the area. They'll both cost some money, but it'll be worth it. At the moment, I'm trying to get some information on being an exchange student to France. Hope this helps;)
2 :
dont do people to people. you are there for 14-23 days, depending on your trip, you have a host family for like 3 days, you travel, go to cool places, and yo are with like 40 other kids from were you come from, and 5 adults. people to people is great, but it is not what you are looking for. do an exchange program.
3 :
If you were able to become emancipated (you must have a strong reason such as being sexually abused or both parents are dead; simply not getting along isn't' reason enough to be emancipated) and you were able to get a visa (which is again unlikely as even though you are emancipated you are still only sixteen) you would have to prove that you could support yourself in Australia, which means getting a job. You can't come to Australia and expect someone else or the govt to support you just because you're not happy living at home. It doesn't matter if you 'have money' you need a constant income, not just one big bulk that runs out. You can't expect the Australian taxpayers to support you. And so what if more goes on? Huh? Unless you are in danger of being murdered at any second it's not grounds for emancipation. People think it's so easy to become an emancipated minor and it's not. And so what if you DO become an emancipated minor? You still can't come to Australia, you're only 16.
4 :
Because you're a minor, you won't be able to come to Australia without firm arrangements for your care and protection that are acceptable to our government. I don't know how emancipation works in the US, but if you're under 18, you would presumably have some type of appointed guardian - there's no way you would get any type of Australian visa without your parent's or guardian's permission. Exchange student arrangements are usually relatively short term and don't sound as if they would suit your circumstances so you would probably need to come as a full time student at a boarding school. Here is the info on what's required to come as a student: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/index.htm

How do I become an actress

How do I become an actress?!!!?
I'm still in primary school in Australia and my dream job is to be an actress. I know most actors come from L.A and America. What are the chances I, being from Australia will have. I love acting because i love being someone else and taking on their charactor. I haven't got an agent(can u get agents in Australia?) and I'm in one school play right now, but I am in a small group that only says 2 things. I hope to go to acting school after high school. What does it look like? Do I have enough to be an actress?

If you want to be a Hollywood actress, move to Hollywood when you are older. But I have to say, having worked in Hollywood and having met many actors, there are many many many better things that you can do with your life. LA is filled with aspiring actors. Even if you get something, you might not be satisfied. You can try doing commericals and TV in Australia first to start if you really want to pursue acting. Audition for the right parts and eventually something will work out.
2 :
you have to go to an acting school they will find you an agent .anyway good luck.
3 :
STOP everything and concentrate on your studies.Your dream is a temporary phenomenon and it will washed away as you grow older and older. The primary level of Education will take you to some level and will give power to understand the character you may role in future. So education is a must for you.You should have healthy body and healthy mind too dear.
4 :
go do shows at a commuinity theatre and if you get into it, tell your parents you really want to act and try comercials or maybe start an acting group with your friends, that isn tprofesional but it will help you. trust me. you can try improv to help your acting skills. if you dont know what imrpov is, its when you make up something on the spot. it helps if a mistake is made in a play. trust me i act, not really profesionally but i have auditioned for broadway and have done movies and i have a couple friends on broadway. if you really get into acting, then when you get older move to ny or la. i live in ny
5 :
just practis and u will be an actress fast as you blink ur eyes
6 :
Study and work in Australia. When you have a strong acting background, you can consider moving to Los Angeles or New York.
7 :
you should get an agent they really help people get auditions and the only way to get auditions from some networks like Disney channel is to have one you should go to Millie Lewis.com and sign up on its mailing list so they ll email you when auditions in your area come and if you have what it takes they become your agent good luck on becoming an actor i hope it really comes though for you. again good luck! ps.millielewis.com also shows you great information you need to know about acting
8 :
Sorry, gotta repost this. I just answered this question a click or two ago. So here goes: As far as you being from Australia, that's cool. Makes no difference to Hollywood. Just make sure that you can shake the accent at will. Be able to talk like us yanks, and like the Brits, for that matter. You HAVE to be able to do that. ok, on with the show. You have to get your SAG card and a good agent. Period. Not until you get your SAG card in hand and actually perform a SPEAKING part in something that actually airs or distributes are you really a pro TV or Movie actor. How do you get one? Don't ask, because people don't tell. How would I myself do it? Well, firstly: I'd get some headshots (black and white head pictures in different facial expressions and poses) made by a good photographer that includes makeup and wardrobe as part of the package. Then, I'd make sure that I can act. I'd do this by auditioning for small local theaterhouses, playcompaines, and dramatic productions. Think urban theater, school plays, drama clubs, college drama departments (even community college, which usually has some of the best). You could also move to LA and pick up the newspaper Backstage West and the magazine Variety which will let you know everything going on in Hollywood, and especially the open cattle calls (extras needed) and music videos. Go to the cattle calls. Be on time and clean and neat and articulate and ready to take direction and stand around all day. Don't harass anyone with your headshot or demo reel/tape/DVD. Just say "Hello, where do you need me today when you start, and slyly slip a headshot/DVD to the casting director when you leave, without saying A WORD. Stay FAR away from LA acting schools, modeling agencies, recording studios, and other sleaze-houses, and make sure that any agent you hook up with has some A-list actors or is part of a firm that does. Independent films are also a great way to get in the game. Go to a film school like UCLA's or NYU's and hang out. Take the headshots and give them to up-and-coming directors. Good directors only. Butter them up by giving them your headshot and asking to see their work. If they are good, keep in contact. Tell them you want to act in their movies. Be on time and reliable. If their film can ends up IN Cannes, you are there too baby! Also, I don't care WHO it is. If you perform some kind of immoral act for them, they are NOT going to get you any more than you can get from Backstage West - a part as an extra. I don't care WHO it is. It just doesn't work like that. You have to have a good, respected agent pulling for you, and once you get that first part, a good attorney (not one the picture company "gives" you) and a good manager pulling for you. To tell you the truth, it's like hitting the lottery. It most likely isn't going to happen at all, no matter how hard you work or what you do, no matter how on the level or immoral. There just aren't enough slots for the number of people that want into Hollywood, and LA will eat you ALIVE trying to chase the dream. Sorry to say it, but you must already be well financed and not care about the money to increase your chances. That way you can just live in LA and do it as a hobby. If you have to work and do this, God help you. It's a hard, hard, hard life. Even if you "make it". You are much better off doing something else that is less risky and less taxing on the soul. Even if you "love to act" or what-have-you. It really really really ain't what you think. One more thing. Rent all seasons of HBO's Entourage. If you ever do "make it big", that show uniquely, accurately outlines the Hollywood lifestyle. LOL it almost made me homesick. Almost.

2 :
Yes, if you are confident! You can get a good job & shine in which ever country it may be, if & only if you are competent. Evaluate yourself. See that you're upto the mark.
3 :
That depends. Are you still an undergrad? Do you plan to work in Australia just after the undergrad graduation? Do you plan to go on your business study in grad school, such as do a MBA program?... Think about these questions first. Australian undergrad study is just 3 years. Try to get into a top one in Australia (it's much more easier than get into an ivy league university), in that case, you'll be more competitive and have more chance to stay and find a good job. But if you still wanna do MBA, go to US. Australian business schools havent top MBA program. However, you still can finish your undergrad study in Australia first, and then apply to your ideal business school.

RUGBY FOR 12 YEAR OLDS IN AUSTRALIA

RUGBY FOR 12 YEAR OLDS IN AUSTRALIA?
I will be moving from Singapore to Australia. Currently my 12-yr old is a rugby player in school. How do I register him for a school in Sydney and play rugby as well. He is very keen in Rugby, where do I start? Are schools expensive in Australia?

It depends where in Australia you will be going. Rugby is strongest in NSW, Queensland and the ACT. In these states rugby and rugby league are played in state schools. Private schools in these three areas are strong rugby nurseries with catholic schools taking an interest now. As well as schools there is also junior club rugby. Junior club rugby starts from under 7s upwards and is played on weekends. School fees are something you will have to discuss with your prospective schools. I hope he enjoys it and does well.

an oncologist is a DR. so you have to go to medical school and specialize in oncology. it takes a LONG LONG time. but good luck
2 :
As the person mentioned, you need to first go to Medical School and become a qualified Doctor. Oncology is a further specialization that you can do only after finishing Medical School. Check the link below for what it takes to be an oncologist.
3 :
Bachelor of Medicine (6 years) intern year, 3-5 years as an RMO in a hospital and then get accepted to a Residency program which will be 3-4 years.

A top selective school or a top private school

A top selective school or a top private school?
while selective schools value academic excellence, private schools teach values. Would you choose to go to a top private school if you're granted scholarship or would you go to a top selective school. What are your views on both. This is refering to Schools in NSW, Australia based on the 2008 HSC results =]
Primary & Secondary Education - 2 Answers

1 :
Values? What are your parents for? I teach my kids the values I want them to have/understand. If they had a teacher who dared to contradict what I wanted taught I'd remove them from the class. Schools should teach. I'll teach values (or outsource it to my church). The educational system should educate.
2 :
I went to your run of the mill public school. No that's a lie. I went to a good public school that was way out of area. No way in hell would my parents ever have let me go to my local public school. They chose the school I went to because it offered me the opportunities they thought I deserved. I was slightly musically inclined so they sent me to a school with a strong performing arts, sound academics and competent sport. And the school were nazi's about uniform and values and stuff. I believe i came out a well rounded and happy person. I came out with a 90 UAI and got into the course I wanted. I could not have asked for a better education. So I would say a top selective school. I'm at Sydney University now which is the breeding ground of the kids from the elite private schools. It's incredible how naive about everything they are. They're disgusted that they have to walk through Redfern and its "filth". My french partner is from the north shore and when I said I went to school at Woolooware she had no idea where it was. Which is fair enough. I then asked if she knew where Cronulla was and she just looked at me. I then asked if she knew where the airport was. Still she was lost. After sitting there for 30 seconds she asked me if Cronulla was out west. I mean jesus christ... If you go to James Ruse however you're going to be in an insanely competitive environment. I would hate that, I'm not an academic. But in saying that you're basically guaranteed a 95+ uai by going there. But i don't think it's worth it. I'll take my 90 uai and a high school education that was fun thanks.

Depends what you wish to do with it. If you are applying for a job where the pre-req is ANY degree, then yes. To get a job in Social work - not a chance - you need an Australian degree for this.
2 :
I don't see why it wouldn't. Assuming that you are doing a bachelors, an American bachelors is at least 4 years long. In Australia they are only 2-3 years in duration and require a lot less coursework. So your degree is much better in that sense.

Is it at all possible for me to do home schooling in Australia

Is it at all possible for me to do home schooling in Australia?
I'm 16, in NSW, doing grade 11. Found I just can't cope with the school. It's the only one in my area, 3 hour commute, the teachers are bullies and don't stop the boys from sexually harrasing the girls (taken to kicking them where it hurts if they try touching me). Can't complain to anybody: everyone from class teacher to the principal don't care. I'm smart; I taught myself the entire grade 10 first semester curriculum in a week after not going that semester, and I want to finish school, but I absolutely cannot cope where I am. It's get an alternative, or drop out. Any suggestions?
Home Schooling - 3 Answers

1 :
It is very much possible to home school in Australia. Start with the Home Education Association for NSW to learn about schools, legal policies and support groups. Here's the website: http://www.hea.asn.au/resources/results_sg.asp?state=NSW You can also go through the New South Wales Homeschooling network for information about schools and further support groups. http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/regional/NewSouthWales.htm
2 :
There are also online schools that accept students from a variety of countries.
3 :
Yes, it's definitely possible to homeschool in Australia. I'm 17, Australian and have been home educated all my life. The only thing I would say to you now, this late in your education, is that you can *not* do the HSC if you're homeschooled. That's not a problem - my three eldest siblings have had no problems getting into uni without a School Certificate of any description. However it is something just to be aware of if you've always had your heart set on getting your HSC. PS Be very, very careful about signing up with a homeschooling program from overseas. Some are accepted by the Education Department and others aren't. I've definitely heard of homeschoolers from NSW (which as in most things is the most bureaucratic state in the Commonwealth when it comes to home education!) who've enrolled in American homeschooling programs only to have the Department of Education brand their education as 'unacceptable'. PPS If your closest government school is three hours away from home (3 hours to get to school, 3 hours to get home again), are you not entitled to AIC? Or the boarding school allowance? We get it over here cuz our closest government school is more than 2 hours away from our property. Actually it's measured from the end of your driveway. Anyway if you are entitled to AIC you should be entitled to enrol for free in Distance Education as an 'isolated child' (and still get your HSC that way).

AUSTRALIA: College after high school does not float my boat.

AUSTRALIA: College after high school does not float my boat...?
Hello everyone, I'm a high school junior, and I am in a program that is preparing me for college and such. However attending school for 4-6 years right out of high school does not interest me, in face I dont feel like I will be ready to make that commitment. One of my teachers, and fellow classmates(senior) told me about the BUNAC program, which I found to be very interesting. I'm already planning to open a separate savings account and having my earnings deposited there when I work my butt off this summer and next summer more than I ever have at my job so I can go to live there for a year in August of 2010. This gives me plenty of time to prepare, and get everything organized as far as financing and plane tickets, and even a spot in the program goes. I'll be applying for the program this coming September, which I'm thinking should be plenty of time for me to get accepted in as it is just about a year ahead of time. When I return to the states, IF I return that is, I will definitely go to college, but have also considered attending there if possible. I'm really wanting to do this, I know it is a lot of growing up to do in a year, but I also think it will be a life changing experience, and no one in my family has ever done anything like it. (hence only 3 or 4 people in my family actually graduated from college, and the rest just worked) What do you think of my plan, and if you have any suggestions please let me hear them. Tell me about Australia as well, I've always wanted to take a vacation there but I think living there for a year sounds even better! Please and Thank You for your time. I was also planning on getting my passport this summer, and then after I get my confirmation e-mail/letter getting a plane ticket yeah like everyone is pressuring me to go to college after i graduate and it just makes me not want to do it. but when i discovered the program and read what it was about it sent butterflies soaring through my belly and got me all excited. because i feel like for the first time in my life i will be doing this on my own, i dont want any help from my family and i think it will prove to them that i am better than what they may portray me to be.

You sound just like me. I dont get the whole college/university thing in the USA, but in England we finish school at 16, can go to college for 2 years and then go onto university to get a degree. I'm starting college in September, and after the 2 years I'm going to go abroad to study at University. I think it's great you've thought about it, you're going out there for a year which allows plenty of time for you to settle in, and if you dont like it you can always return. If not, you can apply for a visa and there you have it, a year is plenty of time to consider things. I am going to go to one of 3 places to study, and hopefully stay out there when I finish. I would be gutted to return home. These are South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. South Africa is amazing but has high crime and little job oppurtunity, although I will be living in Cape Town if i go..New Zealand looks amazing but theres only what, 4 million people living there? And Australia is my safe choice, if I back out of the other two. I dont see why you shouldn't go, you can look while you're out there at college courses, how you can pay for the cost of living etc and travel around in that year to see the whole of Australia. Its a massive country, and theres loads of places you might consider living.. If you make enough money out there, why not fly over to new zealand on a holiday. Remember it's a lot cheaper, and you can compare the two if you feel you want to move out there.
2 :
bunac costs a lot of money you can get a 12 month work and holiday visa on your own this allows you to travel in australia and work
3 :

Hello darling! you sound like a very mature person. when I graduated from high-school I had zero interest in studying at university!!!! (i'm turning 25 this year and i'm still not interested ha ha) I've been to NZ & Canada, now planning a trip to UK :-) work hard and save your pennies - you do NOT want to get a loan or pay for your trip on credit card! bad bad bad idea, especially during a recession. Here is something I want to share with you: --- It seems that a lot of people are told that by going traveling they’ll have â€Å“an amazing time” and â€Å“you’ll meet some many people”. Both statements are usually true, but what the first time traveler isn’t told is that there will be many days when you spend time on your own or days where you don’t have â€Å“an amazing time”. Sometimes you will be lonely and sometimes you won’t be doing amazing things. You tend to get out of traveling what you put into it. For me traveling isn’t always â€Å“amazing” everyday, it has its ups and it’s downs at times. That is exactly what makes it such a character building and memorable experience. --- I got that one from www.travmonkey.com And another thing I want you to look at, it ALWAYS inspires me! http://schools.fsusd.k12.ca.us/schools/fhs/teacher/link/GigioC/Dreamweaver%202/Oh%20The%20Places%20you'll%20Go.htm go for it babe, you only live once! life is not a dress rehearsal! x

Personally, I don't know if I would vote for Obama at the moment, and this comment hasn't changed that. As far as noting that his policy is not a good one, I'm not surprised - in my opinion, the last point where there was a good choice regarding Iraq was roughly four years ago. At this point, I see it as a "bad plan, worse plan," not "good plan, bad plan."
8 :
Well Australias PM was told by Obama to send more Aussies...put up or shut up !!
9 :
We call John Howard George Bush's arse licker over here so I wouldn't worry about what he has got to say by time you have a new President we will have voted in a new Prime Minister.
10 :
School Obama?! Please. The PM of Australia, John Howard, is a staunch Bush "croonie". It is easy for him to make his statements since Australia only has ~1400 troops in and around Iraq and Afghanistan. And guess what, as of 2007 no Australian troops have died in Iraq. Only 4 Australians (all private citizens) have died since the start of the "War in Iraq". Let me know if you need some more schooling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11 :
pull out the troops in march, declare the nation under shariah law by may.
12 :
Ha ha
13 :
Tell the Australian Prime Minister to send to send 40,000 of his troops over there and then I might listen to him
14 :
Mate, here in OZ "Little Johnnny Howard " is losing credibility all the time, so why the hell would you guys listen to Bush's suck Ass..(as we call them here).
15 :
The Australian PM is that country's version of Dubya, and it looks like he's about to get voted out,He's just doing the same thing Dubya does-he's saying anything to distract everyone from the fact he's got his country in a mess and he doesn't have a clue about fixing it.

Are there any two-year nursing schools in Sydney, Australia?
I live in the US and I was thinking about taking my nursing degree from Australia instead of doing it here. I just want to change the scenery. But I'm not sure if there are any two-year colleges there (like community colleges in the US).

G'day, Yes there are. They are called TAFE colleges. The courses are usually under the category of vocational. To find out where nursing is offered, I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the college's website. Please make sure that you access the information for international students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'. Once decided on the college, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Living cost... Sydney and Canberra have the highest living cost, followed by Melbourne & Brisbane, then Perth, Darwin, Adelaide & Tasmania the lowest. I am attaching a weblink from one of the uni in Melbourne as an indication. Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)

Question in Y!A say a diploma is a high school certificate. in Australia I think it is different there is a diploma (Post grad) and bachelor (under grad). So is the difference between the 2 degree's just different entry into the course? or age? is one worth less than the other? is one less work than the other?

Diploma and Associate Diploma are TAFE qualifications. Bachelors are given out at universities and are undergraduate degrees GRADUATE Certificates and Diplomas are an extra semester/2 semesters after the Bachelor degree with generally (although not always) some time working between getting the Bachelor and enrolling in the Grad Dip. Universities have acknowledged that a Bachelor does not always prepare you for a specific job in the workforce - the Grad Cert/Dips are that little extra training to give you an added edge in the job market
2 :
High School = Certificate - equivalent to U.S high school Diploma. There are two levels of Diplomas in Australia one that you do through a technical/private college which takes 1.5 - 2 years to complete, this Diploma is below a Bachelor Degree which takes a minimum of 3 years to complete. Post Graduate Diplomas generally require the completion of a Bachelor Degree and are generally harder academically as it is at university level; They can be completed in 1 - 2 years Generally young people straight from high school who do not have the marks to get into university go to a Technical college for a few years to gain a Diploma and practical work skills. However you do get some people who are much older in the course often refereed to as mature age students. At the end of the day when you are in the workplace it does not really matter however if you are set on building an academic career then it is very important to choose a a course at one of the best colleges.

Universities have acknowledged that a Bachelor does not always prepare you for a specific job in the workforce - the Grad Cert/Dips are that little extra training to give you an added edge in the job market

At the end of the day when you are in the workplace it does not really matter however if you are set on building an academic career then it is very important to choose a a course at one of the best colleges.

i hawaii the private schools have weird schedules for breaks like my school has short breaks but a really long summer vacation, it's christian so we get more holidays off too dunno about australia though.... u should check the school's website that you're looking to join
2 :
I went private - and yes stack more materials, better education opportunity's, Education facilities , before ad after school activities and a higher sense of moral and values for later life

Im in Sth Australia - and yes here there are differences. Private are more likely to have more equipment but less playtimes. More structured days. State have less funding and less equipment and the kids in preschool learn through play. Id go State all the way. They have enough time in the Educational Institution as they go thru school. Let bubs be bubs and learn to socialise and follow simple rules until the damands of formal schooling is required.

I want to travel and play music. What should i do after high school

I want to travel and play music. What should i do after high school?
I'm 18, just about to graduate. I got accepted at about 6 colleges around New England. But i dont really feel excited to go to any of them. I want to travel. I want to learn, especially about music, but am not interested in going to a college for music. I am really not committed to the idea of going to school. I want to find opportunities to spend at least a year abroad right out of high school. ? Ireland, australia, new zealand, italy, are all places ive always wanted to see. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated. What should i do with my life?

What are some benefits and sources for home schooling in australia

What are some benefits and sources for home schooling in australia?
ive just started home schooling, im in year nine now. I'm really struggling to find the motivation to work and learn. What are some online ways of schooling myself, through all subjects necessary. Also does my mother still have the $1500 dollar tax deductible like she did when i was attending conventional school. Do we get any other tax or money benefits from the government. The online schooling must be free please. i would greatly appreciate the help :) if you want to talk with me you can email me, (adrian.spence@live.com) and please don't say homeschooling wont work, because its prooven that it does. Any helps appreciated. any negative answers will be repported.

There is no such thing as free online schooling in Australia. For the huge majority of kids who want to do online school the only option is to join one of the private Christian schools who offer an online option. If you live in Qld you might be able to join their School of Distance Education (part online & part correspondence, i.e. through the post) as a 'by choice' student, but again you'd have to pay school fees, currently approx $2,000, to do so. Legally and officially online schooling is *not* homeschooling in Australia. It is Distance Education (or 'school at home'). You would still be enrolled as a fulltime school student and your legal status would be no different from how it was while you were attending your conventional school. Hence you and your mum'd keep all the monies, benefits etc that you got previously for going to conventional school. The only different/extra money that you can get for being online/home educated is the textbook allowance (previously paid to your school). However if you change to an online school or started homeschooling during the school year, your previous school will have already had your allowance and your mum won't get it again. Hopefully your local H.E.U. has already explained this to you but if your mum wants it, she'll have to go back to your previous school and ask them for a pro-rata share of your allowance, based on however long the school year still had to run when you left. Beyond those few private schools there really is no outside agency in Australia that's going to get you motivated or keep you on track. Don't know how you're homeschooling but there are a few companies from whom you can buy ready made curricula etc if you're struggling for lack of a cohesive plan. DownUnder Lit, Golden Beetle and Aussie Homeschool supplies are the main ones that spring to my mind. None of them will tell you what to do when nor check up on whether you're actually bothering to do it though. Ultimately, in order to make a go of homeschooling you just have to learn how to motivate and discipline yourself, maybe with help from your mum to start off with. How you do that is entirely up to you. Some people go better with a 'carrot approach' (when I finish these lessons I'm going to reward myself with x, y or z), while others find they go better under the 'stick' (I have to get this, this and this lesson finished before I go and watch telly, surf the web, go outside, whatever). Having said all that tho. you should not expect the transition from being taught at school to learning at home to be easy, immediate or seamless. It takes time to make the change. In fact it is always said that for every year you've spent in school you'll need at least a month to make the swap, so if you've spent the previous nine years in a school environment you should not now expect home ed to really click or your motivation for learning to fall into place just like that, at the drop of a hat. That could take until you've been out of school for at least nine months. The skills you've developed and used for learning in school won't really help you that much in learning successfully at home. Making the change from one to the other is an intellectual process of its own and 1) it takes time and 2) it has to be gone through in order that you can start to recall and re-learn the skills associated with self directed learning, including that all-important ability to motivate yourself.

According to Google, it's somewhat of a gray area, but I'd be happy to do more research if you want to message me. I spent about 10 minutes looking around but it's not an easy answer. Again, feel free to message me and I hope you are successful in what you are looking for.
