The Australian school year, which starts in January and ends in December. This can be made up of two six-month semesters each with two terms but, not very sensibly, each state sets its own holidays and terms, so some states have 3 (or even 4) terms instead. What do you mean the rest of the world? Japan starts in spring, sensibly, as its in the northern hemisphere. No-one knows why on Earth countries like England and the US still stick to starting the year going into the hardest to cope with months of the year when within a few weeks London and anything on that parallel will have less than 7 hours of daylight, instead of the spring when things are getting brighter and children, who are still best adjusted to the natural not the clock time, are better able to cope.

No its not like the rest of the world,they start scool in January After New Years eve after 1 week. They dont have Summer holidays which i think they should.

No......who did tell you the "the rest of the world" starts in aug - sept. I'm in "the rest of the world" too, and my classes just finished. May be you wanted to mean as the "rest of northern hemisphere". We, the persons living in the Southern hemisphere havent the seasons as in the north, so, for us, classes start at the end of summer (march) and go till the end of spring (december) Australia is almost the same.. Our summer vacations are 2 months and a bit more. from december till end of february or starting march. We enjoy our beaches, in that season.

We start on Jan 23 next year so they can have 2 weeks off at Easter and then more holidays in June, September and our summer break is in December which is our summer...funny enough!! My kids have just started their Christmas holidays....JOY!!!

I don't know where some people are basing their facts but we have our holiday over December/January and start back at the very end of January!
