i want to transfer from a school in austraila to in america but will i be too dumb?
I'm 15 and i go to a high school in australia. i suck at maths, everything to do with maths. i either fail or just get a C or even lower. but i want to go live with a family member who lives in california. but i'm scared that if i do. and i go to school there. will i be the dumbest kid there? because who knows... americans could be smarter then australians.. or they could be less smart? because of the school curriculum. i dont know anything about american schools at all. i heard they are really different from austrailian high schools. someone from america please help?

I am an American and attended University there, and I found that Australian schools were more difficult that American schools, however that might just be the University I attended (University of Queensland). It seems to me that Australian schools are very dependent upon examinations whereas American schools provide opportunities for all kinds of learners to succeed. I think you'll do just fine if you transfer to an American school; you most definitely won't be the dumbest kid here. You can't really generalize one nationality being smarter than another because both Australian culture as well as American culture is made up of so many different people and value so many different things that intelligence varies among all people.

Surf brands are very popular, Quiksilver, Ripcurl etc. Have a look at Summer Heights High on Youtube for some ideas of what school life is like.

The impression you make at school should be 'you'... who you are and not what other people want you to be. I understand you want to be liked... but what do you want the popular people to like you for? For being pretty, nice clothes and good times? Or something less shallow?

And if my kid had gone to your school, and spoke as appallingly as you do, I'd want them to go to a school in Sydney too. Not shallow. Pfft. Talking like that, you can't afford to be not shallow.

Future employment choice regarding school

Future employment choice regarding school?
At the moment im in Year 10 at school in Australia. I am unsure of what i am wanting to do regarding when i get older for a full time job with fairly good pay... and my parents have told me that i have to go to a trade school (school that is based on the training of a chosen occupation) so i can get ready for the future employment. But i am wanting to move and live in the United States and not sure if all qualifications are acceptable internationally (regulations different eg Certificate II Hospitality). Should i stay at school till the end of year 12 and then move over to the United States and do something (not sure). Please i need help on what to do... I only got till the end of the month to pick what i want to do for the future regarding a trade school... and i wouldn't be able to get good enough marks for university so i'm unsure... :S please respond quickly (sensible answers)

You will not be able to move to the USA and work there unless you have superior professional qualifications. A "Certificate in Hospitality" won't be enough.

It changes with government/catholic/private schools as their expectations and standards differ, but generally speaking they are all fairly intolerant of bad behaviour. I remember getting frequent detentions and suspended regularly, whilst not being a 'terrible' student

Usually it depends on the school. I got in a fight some kid a year ago and all i got was an afternoon detention and a note home, and i even started it. Swearing at a teacher will usually get you sent to the head of the department of what subject the teacher was teaching (EG: You swear at a science teacher you go to the head of science) That's my school though

most schools are intollerant of bad behaviour... but in my opinion punishments arent enough...bring back the cain :) but also depends weather you mean high scholl or primary... primary schools prob let a bit more go than what most high schools would, but at the same time high schools have alot more issues such as smoking, drugs, fights ect...

It really depends on the school, there are two types of schools here public and private. Public schools are usually less strict than private schools. Private schools are usually catholic/ religious thats why.

Im a student in australia at high school. I personally think its about the school like the others above me are saying. At my school though if you start a fight, in a fight, watching a fight, caught smoking, drugs etc you will be suspended for a minimal 3 days. I reckon my shool is good though on discipline :)

well depends on the school our system is pretty easy to get away with stuff, i must admit but i guess it just like any school although it would vary throughout school and state it has detention etc the worst i ever got was sent home for a week with no work yayyy!!! [i was a horrible student haha]
