Being yourself? Insecurities. Does it get you anywhere in High School

Being yourself? Insecurities. Does it get you anywhere in High School?
PLEASE. Don't answer if you're going to tell me 'just get over it and get off the internet' cos really, I'm trying! I'm in high school in Australia and it's quite hard, socially that is. If you're not popular, you never will be because people's opinions have already stuck in their minds even if they don't pay attention to you. That's my problem. I am not popular but I'm not one of the people that popular kids bully (which is good). So yeah okay, I just get insecure at all the popular/average kids (socially). They're so pretty (!), confident, full of life and they have interesting things to say which make them have many friends. Whereas I, I am funny to my friends but if I compare myself to anyone I feel that I am lame and boring. I have no style at all and I'm not what you call attractive... I am weird in a way, but I'm not even known for that, I'm just boring (only one guy has said that but even so) and I can't talk to anyone who's outside my circle of friends. I get chances to talk to people but I don't use those opportunities to make friends because I'm too shy. But I may also be considered SO annoying which I want to stop... :S and yeah guys... seriously how on earth do you talk to teenage guys? I don't know what to talk about. I believe that I will never ever date in high school (even though I have twice BEFORE high school) and never go out with anyone all my life seeing as I'm so boring. I'm not a sad teenager, to be honest, I'm quite bubbly. But it's like I can talk online but not in real life which may freak some people out. So to sum this up (this didnt make much sense) all I'm asking is how to talk to people, how not to be shy and how to get over myself due to all my insecurities. I don't want to be popular, I just want to be me. And I don't need to be liked, I just want to be respected. But how am I going to start respecting myself? Or at least be happy with what I have? Seriously though, about the interesting part... my humour isn't dark it's very lame really and one would get bored of me for sure but yeah, as I said, I'm funny to my friends; I'm not some person who's so deep or has got past experiences that have made me so... shy. I'm not intellectual at all and not smart but I get A's. Argh.... :S Thanks for the answers :)

FYI every high school is the same all across the world, and many of the things you feel about yourself all these insecurities so does everyone else even these bullies thats why they do it because they need to put other people down to make them feel better and powerful and mighty! Dont listen to what there opinions of you are because as long as your friends like you who cares about others. You never know when ure older they may end up in a dead end job and be looking for you to help them out. Its calme- i t will come back and bitethem on the bum. DO NOT LISTEN to what they say be yourself and if the person likes you you willbe comfortable but you need to stop listening to the bullies because this is what makes you shy because you are believeing what they say :)

you need confidence, to begin with. seriously, everyone has insecurities (even those cool smart ppl), but they ignore the insecurties don't they? so thats what you gotta do! how you can get over your insecurities? well, start by doing someting that makes you feel good about yourself, like go work out or get a makeover or a new hairstyle or try something you havent... you'll be left feeling good. next, you say you're bubbly, so go talk to people. there's always someone to talk to, and if you don't have many friends, then start by saying hi and stuff. you'll get over your shyness and insecurity at the same time. also, stop comparing yourself to other ppl, cuz face it, you'll never be like them, and more importantly, THEY'LL NEVER BE LIKE YOU! if you want to be a more interesting person, try watching tv shows and stuff that others talk about, so that you'll atleast have a clue about what's going on (even if you don't really like the show, just watch it! or read about it on wikipedia ;) )...if you think you're lame, then you are! try reading jokes, being a little sarcastic (in the nice way) and you're good to go! alsoo...its not a must to date anyone, its great bing single! good luck and i really hope this makes sense (lol) :)

tch.......anyone tells you to get over it and get off the net can suck a fat one. this happens to millions upon millions of kids. its why teenage shows are the way they are(not the crappy unfunny part, but the reflective of how bad high school was) im in the U.S so take your high school experience and multiply that by lets say uhh.......infinity..yeah thats the perfect number. you said no but any kid bullies you u need to learn how to beat the brakes off them. full brake alignment. and if your high schools like the U.S, those popular kids dont have anything interesting, gossip, drama, all that useless crap that wont do shit for you......trust me in a few years that will all be irrelevant. all the popular kids i knew either got knocked up or fat,(their bodies went all fun house mirrior on them) or workin at walmart now, even both. again, when you get older all that "interesting" stuff they said will sound dumb as hell. alot of us have insecurities, they do as well such as the ones that bully. thats part of why, along with peer pressure. if your not lame nor boring, dont worry about it, you also gotta know how u think others perceive you is much different then reality in most cases, not all but most. and we are all weird in a way, but some love to either hide it or be weird in groups and well...majority rules so...eh. and you do have style, your own style, and if you show confidence and possibly a lil sass in there, ull be fine. i promise, you have to be balls out and confident in yourself, otherwise no one else will beleive it either. like ugly guys pulling beautiful women, they dont need money completely although it helps, but the confidence is what attracts. and u gotta do whatever makes you comfortable, being social just isnt in some peoples cards. but if you want to be, take that one step forward.. no one else will do it for you. hate to sound like a dick but most teenage guys are into sex, u talk about that or even mention the word ull have full attention. i garentee it. or u find a guy u like and get to know him, ask him what he likes, other then that theirs no better way then the direct answer. and how to talk to people.....just be yourself, become comfortable with yourself around others in public, master yourself(not zen BS) once you are, u become confident, relaxed, cool and collected. u can say whatever you want then. and people will find how interesting you are. in the end toots just remember, all your good qualities, ive never met you obviously and this maybe the last time i ever speak to you. but remember this. popular kids talk about dumbass shit all the dumbass time. i poop out more important matters. a real life jet pack is interesting(They exist google it, a fish with a see through head...awesome... french maids pillow fighting...much...MUCH...more interesting...(MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA). be comfortable and strong with who you are, and dont let anyone take that from you. tell em to suck it if they try. guys like me,well...all of us like sex, but if u dont want that, just ask them up front what they like, innocent question so theirs no big issue there. if they find issue their nuts or retarded. once your comfortable, you can project onto the world what kind of cool person you are. remember toots, you only have one life to live, screw the big issues, and try to enjoy it. ull problaby have alot more to face in life like we all do. so think of this as really small issues, its easier said then done yes, but u do what u gotta do toots, and .... just...do whatever makes you happy.. no matter what. p.s screw you yahoo spell checker, you unclean whore stop correctin me.

www.expedia.com --- check it out, it will give you comparison for fare from different airlines.

Get on the net and start looking, or go to your nearest travel agent. Also, at 15 I don't quite see why you are looking at our schools. You can't come here to study without your parents at that age. Who is going to pay your airfare? You would not get a visa to enter Australia unaccompnied at your age anyway.

Will American employers look down on a graduate degree from the UK or Australia

Will American employers look down on a graduate degree from the UK or Australia?
I'm flirting with the idea of going to grad school in England or Australia (I'm American). Would this hurt my career if I decide to work in the US after I graduate? Do American employers look unfavorably upon degrees from other non-American English-speaking countries?

i would have though it would be more prestigious! im doing my degree in the UK and love it!

I think that a company that would look down on a graduate degree from the UK or Australia would be a company you wouldn't want to work for. We are becoming a much more global society every day, every second actually and the more globally educated a person is, the bigger the asset they would be to an organization. (Read anything written by Thomas Friedman - he is one fo the formost experts on globalization). I actually work in the study abroad industry and I have worked in university admissions. I know for a fact that admissions (as well as the work force) is so competitive nowadays that you HAVE to set yourself apart from the rest of the herd. Studying abroad is a great way to do that. Also, make sure that you go into a graduate program that is really reputable - don't join a graduate program just because it is in the UK, join it because it is the most progressive / best / reputable, etc in that industry. That is really what matters in a graduate degree - the university supplying that degree has to be in the top of the field for those studies. That is where you will gain that credibilty, no matter where in the world you study.

I think a lot of it depends on what kind of degree you want and where you want to work. I wouldn't have thought so (I'm getting a degree here in the UK now), but some of my previous college professors questioned my decision to leave the US. This is strange because I already have a degree from a university in the US and the quality of learning is much higher in the UK. I agree with the statement above--anyone who looks down on it is probably not someone you want to work for. There are a lot of narrow-minded people out there.
4 :
Doubt it. To be sure I decided to do my PhD here in the U.S. then find some post-doc position in Ireland or the U.K. in order to get the overseas experience and build my C.V. Everyone is different, but that is my plan anyway.
